Fearless by Max Lucado

Posted by mnmojoe |

What an honor it was reviewing Max Lucado’s new book “Fearless”. It just so happened that it could not have come at a better time in my life as well. With job changes, moving to a new state, and kids dealing with illness, Max’s book was a God send.

Each chapter deals with a different type of fear that you might have faced, are facing, or will face at some point in your life and makes for an easy way to get a refresher in the midst of a trial. The chapters, “Woe, Be Gone”, “My Child is in Danger”, and “I’m Sinking Fast” were of great importance and help to me right now in my life.

However, not all of the chapters rang true to me, but rather than being a detriment to the book I actually took this as a positive, knowing that although the information wasn’t necessarily needed now, it may be at a different season of life and will be readily available at that time.

I enjoyed Max’s writing style as he mingled stories and personal tales throughout the book that gave you a sense that you weren’t the only one facing that particular fear.

I found myself making notes in my copy throughout as I discovered one or two line gems of hope and peace that I want to be able to read again and again.

Finally, Max doesn’t go the way of many authors who fill their books with pages of theory and vacuum sealed ideas that can’t stand the tests and trials of everyday life. Instead, each chapter has practical steps that you can take to deal with each specific fear you might face. There are even study questions at the end of the book for each chapter that will help you flesh out being “Fearless” in your own life.

I would recommend “Fearless” by Max Lucado for anyone dealing with change, doubt, worry, or fear in any area of their life and as Max says, “It’s not the absence of storms that sets us apart. It’s whom we discover in the storm: an unstirred Christ.”

Nope - not a fiction book. More of a Self Help type.
